This is a common feature in Finnish poetry, song lyrics, and even casual speech to create emphasis, rhythm, or a particular tone.

The flexibility of Finnish grammar, particularly its rich case system and lack of strict subject-verb-object order, allows for significant variation in word placement. For instance, a sentence that might conventionally be "Minä näin suuren talon eilen" (I saw a big house yesterday) could be rearranged as "Eilen minä näin suuren talon" (Yesterday I saw a big house) or even "Suuren talon minä näin eilen" (A big house I saw yesterday) to highlight different parts of the sentence.

Sanakäänteitä can serve various purposes. It can be used to emphasize a particular word by placing it at the beginning or end of a sentence, or within a clause where it might not typically appear.
