Saint Remigius of Reims, also known as Remigius or Remi, was the bishop of Reims in what is now northern France during late antiquity. He led the see from the late 5th century until his death in the early 6th century. In Christian tradition he is credited with a central role in the conversion of the Frankish king Clovis I and, more broadly, in the Christianization of the Frankish kingdoms.

Remigius is best known for baptizing Clovis I at Reims around 496, an event that helped establish Catholic Christianity as the dominant faith of the Frankish state and strengthened the alliance between the Frankish rulers and the Western Church. As a leading churchman, he oversaw the expansion of church structures in Gaul, supported the establishment of dioceses and monasteries, and participated in regional synods that shaped church policy. Reims grew as a religious center under his influence, and the later Basilica of Saint-Remi in Reims is associated with his name.

He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and in some traditions of the Orthodox Church. His feast day is observed on October 1 in many Western calendars. Remigius’s legacy lies in his association with the spread of Catholic Christianity in Gaul and the consolidation of church authority during the Merovingian era.
