Saeteilyhäviöt, a Finnish term, translates to "friction losses" or "drag losses" in English. It refers to the energy lost due to friction as a fluid, such as air or water, flows through a system. This phenomenon is prevalent in various engineering applications, including pipe systems, pumps, and aerodynamic surfaces.

In fluid dynamics, saeteilyhäviöt manifest as a reduction in pressure or energy of the fluid. These losses arise from the interaction between the fluid and the boundaries of the conduit, as well as from internal friction within the fluid itself, known as viscosity. The magnitude of saeteilyhäviöt depends on factors like the fluid's velocity, viscosity, the geometry of the flow path, and the roughness of the surfaces involved.
