SVHCcontaining
SVHCcontaining refers to materials or articles that contain Substances of Very High Concern as defined by the European Union's Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation. The REACH regulation aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. Substances are identified as SVHCs due to their hazardous properties, such as being carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic, persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic, or very persistent and very bioaccumulative. Companies that place articles on the EU market containing SVHCs above a concentration limit of 0.1% by weight must provide information to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and to recipients of the articles. This information allows consumers and downstream users to make informed decisions about the products they use. The identification and communication of SVHCs is a key component of REACH's objective to ensure a high level of protection from chemicals. The list of SVHCs is continuously updated by ECHA based on new scientific information.
