ST8SIA3
ST8SIA3, also known as SIAT3 or ST8 alpha-N-acetyl-neuraminidate alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase 3, is an enzyme encoded by the ST8SIA3 gene. This gene is located on human chromosome 16. ST8SIA3 is a member of the alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase family, which are glycosyltransferases responsible for the synthesis of sialic acids. Sialic acids are a group of negatively charged nine-carbon sugar derivatives that play crucial roles in various biological processes.
The enzyme ST8SIA3 catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid from a donor molecule, typically cytidine monophosphate-N-acetylneuraminic
Expression of ST8SIA3 has been observed in various tissues, including the brain, liver, and kidneys. Its activity
