SOLAS stands for the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. It is one of the most important international treaties concerning the safety of merchant ships. The convention aims to specify standards on building, equipping, and operating merchant ships that comply with these safety standards. The first version of SOLAS was adopted in 1914 in response to the sinking of the Titanic. Since then, it has been updated several times, with the current version being SOLAS 1974.
