SNAREkompleksets is a term used in molecular biology to describe a group of proteins involved in vesicle fusion. These proteins are essential for the transport of molecules within cells and for the secretion of substances outside the cell. SNARE proteins are categorized into two main types: v-SNAREs (vesicle SNAREs) and t-SNAREs (target SNAREs). V-SNAREs are found on the membrane of vesicles, while t-SNAREs are located on the target membrane with which the vesicle will fuse.

The interaction between v-SNAREs and t-SNAREs is highly specific, ensuring that vesicles deliver their cargo to the correct destination. When a vesicle approaches its target membrane, the v-SNARE on the vesicle docks with the t-SNARE on the target. This binding initiates a conformational change that drives the lipid bilayers of the vesicle and target membrane to fuse, releasing the vesicle's contents. This process is crucial for various cellular functions, including neurotransmitter release at synapses, hormone secretion, and endocytosis. Dysregulation of SNARE complex function has been implicated in several diseases, highlighting its critical role in cellular physiology.
