SD70AH

The EMD SD70AH is a six-axle, 4,300 horsepower (3,200 kW) diesel-electric locomotive built by Electro-Motive Diesel. It is an evolution of the SD70ACe model, featuring an increased tractive effort capability due to a heavier frame and longer wheelbase. This design allows for greater adhesion and therefore a higher starting and continuous tractive effort compared to its predecessor.

The SD70AH is equipped with an EMD 16-710G3C-EC engine and an AC traction system. Its robust construction and powerful engine make it well-suited for heavy-duty freight service, including hauling coal, ore, and intermodal trains. The locomotive's increased weight and longer trucks contribute to its improved hauling capacity.

Several North American railroads operate the SD70AH, primarily for bulk commodity and manifest freight operations. Its enhanced performance characteristics are particularly beneficial in mountainous terrain or when pulling very long and heavy trains.
