SATAliitännän, which translates to SATA connection in English, refers to the interface used to connect storage devices like hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs) to a computer's motherboard. SATA, standing for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment, is a standard that replaced the older Parallel ATA (PATA) interface. The primary advantage of SATA over PATA is its higher data transfer speeds and smaller, more flexible cables, which improve airflow within a computer case.

There are several revisions of the SATA interface, each offering increased performance. SATA I (1.5 Gbit/s), SATA II (3 Gbit/s), and SATA III (6 Gbit/s) are the most common versions found in modern computers. Higher numbered revisions are backward compatible, meaning a SATA III drive can work in a SATA II port, but it will be limited to the slower speed of the port.

The SATA connection consists of two main cables: a data cable and a power cable. The data cable, typically a thin, red or black cable, connects the storage device to a SATA port on the motherboard. The power cable, a wider connector, comes from the computer's power supply unit (PSU) and provides electricity to the drive. Both connectors are keyed to ensure they are plugged in correctly, preventing damage. The widespread adoption of SATA has made it the de facto standard for internal storage connectivity in personal computers and servers.
