Südamebypassoperatsioon

Südamebypassop is the Estonian term for coronary artery bypass surgery. This is a surgical procedure performed to improve blood flow to the heart. It is typically recommended for individuals who have severe blockages in their coronary arteries, which are the vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. These blockages can lead to chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, and a significantly increased risk of heart attack.

During a Südamebypassop, a surgeon takes a healthy blood vessel, usually from the leg, chest, or arm, and grafts it onto the coronary artery. This new vessel bypasses the blocked section, creating a new path for blood to flow to the heart muscle.
