Südamebypassop

Südamebypassop, also known as coronary artery bypass surgery, is a surgical procedure to improve blood flow to the heart. It is performed when one or more of the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle, become narrowed or blocked by plaque buildup, a condition called coronary artery disease. This blockage can lead to chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, and in severe cases, a heart attack.

During the surgery, a healthy blood vessel is taken from another part of the body, such as the leg, arm, or chest. This vessel, called a graft, is then attached above and below the blocked section of the coronary artery. This bypasses the blockage, creating a new pathway for blood to flow to the heart muscle. The most common types of grafts used are the internal mammary artery and the saphenous vein.

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia. While the patient is asleep, the chest bone is opened to access the heart. In some cases, a less invasive technique called minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery may be used, which involves smaller incisions and may not require opening the chest bone. After the surgery, patients usually spend several days in the hospital for recovery and are advised to follow a rehabilitation program to help them regain strength and adopt a heart-healthy lifestyle.
