Røttespissen
Røttespissen, Norwegian for the root tip, is the distal end of a plant root where growth and initial tissue differentiation occur. It comprises two main components: the root apical meristem (RAM), a group of undifferentiated cells that continually divide to produce the various tissues of the root, and the root cap, a protective layer that covers the very tip as the root grows through soil. The root cap includes protective cells and border cells, which shed to release a mucilaginous layer that lubricates the root path and helps defend against pathogens.
Behind the RAM lies the elongation zone, where newly formed cells lengthen to extend the root, and
Hormonal signaling, particularly involving auxin, coordinates growth at the tip, influencing cell division, elongation, and direction
