Röntgenräumen, translated as "X-ray rooms" or "radiology rooms," are specialized areas within medical facilities designed for the acquisition of radiographic images. These rooms are constructed with specific safety features to protect both patients and medical personnel from ionizing radiation. The walls, doors, and windows are typically shielded with lead, a material that effectively absorbs X-rays.

The primary function of a Röntgenraum is to house X-ray generating equipment, such as X-ray tubes, and image receptors, which can be film-screen combinations, computed radiography (CR) plates, or digital radiography (DR) detectors. Patients are positioned between the X-ray source and the image receptor. When the X-ray tube is activated, a beam of radiation passes through the patient's body. Different tissues and structures absorb radiation to varying degrees, creating a pattern of varying intensity on the image receptor.

These rooms are essential for diagnosing a wide range of medical conditions, including fractures, infections, and foreign objects.
