Réchie
Réchie is a term derived from the French verb "rééchir," meaning to reflect or bounce back. In physics, it refers to the phenomenon of light or other electromagnetic waves bouncing off a surface. This is a fundamental principle in optics and is responsible for many observable phenomena, such as how we see objects. When light strikes an object, it is either absorbed, transmitted, or reflected. Rééchie specifically describes the reflected portion of the light. The angle at which the light strikes the surface, known as the angle of incidence, is equal to the angle at which it bounces off, known as the angle of reflection, according to the law of reflection. This principle is utilized in various technologies, including mirrors, telescopes, and fiber optics. The nature of the surface, whether smooth or rough, affects the type of reflection. Smooth surfaces like mirrors produce specular reflection, where parallel rays of light remain parallel after reflection. Rough surfaces, on the other hand, cause diffuse reflection, scattering light in many directions. This diffuse reflection is what allows us to see non-shiny objects. The term rééchie can also be used metaphorically to describe the act of considering or pondering something, much like light reflecting back to its source for re-examination.
