Rubidium-containing refers to any chemical substance that includes rubidium as part of its composition. Rubidium is a soft, silvery-white alkali metal with atomic number 37; in most compounds, rubidium exists as the Rb+ cation. Rubidium-containing compounds are typically ionic salts that are soluble in water and have applications in research and industry. Common rubidium salts include rubidium chloride (RbCl), rubidium carbonate (Rb2CO3), rubidium nitrate (RbNO3), rubidium sulfate (Rb2SO4), and rubidium hydroxide (RbOH). The metal itself is highly reactive and must be stored under oil or in an inert environment, as it reacts vigorously with moisture and air to form oxides and hydroxides.

Natural rubidium is a trace element in the Earth's crust. It occurs in many minerals and is often recovered as a byproduct of potash mining or from brine deposits containing rubidium, cesium, and lithium. Typical processing involves mining, dissolution, selective precipitation, and ion-exchange or solvent extraction to isolate rubidium-containing species.

Isotopes: Natural rubidium consists primarily of two isotopes, Rb-85 and Rb-87. Rb-87 is radiogenic and decays to Sr-87, a process used in rubidium-strontium dating in geology. The short-lived isotope Rb-82 is used as a radiotracer in medical imaging (PET).
