Rotametrit

Rotametrit is a hypothetical mineral used in geoscience education and speculative mineralogy to illustrate mineral description and nomenclature. It is not an officially recognized mineral species; no peer-reviewed description exists, and it is not listed in major mineral databases such as Mindat or the IMA's approved mineral list.

The name Rotametrit combines elements intended to evoke rotation and measurement; as a fictional example, it demonstrates how mineral groups are referenced by prefixes and suffixes in standard nomenclature.

In fictional classroom descriptions, Rotametrit is described as forming monoclinic crystals with tabular prisms; color ranges from pale yellow-green to gray; vitreous luster; Mohs hardness about 6; cleavage along two perpendicular planes; density around 3.0–3.4 g/cm3; refractive indices near 1.68–1.72; weak pleochroism; no magnetic properties.

As a hypothetical mineral, Rotametrit has no natural occurrence; it is sometimes invoked in pedagogical materials to illustrate how a specimen might be described. Synthetic routes are described only in thought experiments, not in experimental literature.

The primary use is educational, to illustrate mineral nomenclature, crystal systems and property reporting. In professional contexts, Rotametrit remains a placeholder unless a real specimen is described and published.
