Roothaan
Roothaan is a Dutch surname. The most notable bearer is Jan Philipp Roothaan (1785–1853), a Jesuit priest who served as Superior General of the Society of Jesus after its restoration. Roothaan was elected general in 1829 and led the order until his death in 1853. His tenure occurred during a period of rebuilding after the suppression of the Jesuits in the 18th century and the revival of the Society beginning in 1814 by Pope Pius VII.
