Rolleidentitet
Rolleidentitet refers to the understanding and internalization of the social roles an individual occupies. It is the cognitive and behavioral aspect of social identity, where a person perceives themselves as embodying certain roles such as parent, student, employee, or friend. This identification with a role involves adopting the norms, expectations, and behaviors associated with it. The development of role identity is a continuous process, influenced by socialization and personal experiences. Individuals may have multiple role identities that can sometimes interact or conflict with each other. The strength of a role identity can vary depending on its importance to the individual's self-concept and the social context. When a role identity is strongly established, it can guide behavior and influence decision-making. Conversely, a weak or uncertain role identity can lead to feelings of confusion or a lack of direction. Social psychologists study role identity to understand how social structures shape individual behavior and self-perception.
