Rikkeinge

Rikkeinge is a small town situated in the central part of Denmark, within the Faxe Municipality of the Zealand Region. It lies approximately 30 kilometres southeast of the capital city, Copenhagen, and is accessible via the E20 motorway and local bus routes that connect it to larger urban centres.

The origins of Rikkeinge can be traced back to the early Middle Ages, with the first written record appearing in a charter dated 1156. Over the centuries the town developed around agricultural activities, particularly grain cultivation and livestock farming. The most prominent historic landmark in Rikkeinge is St. Rikke Church, a Romanesque structure built in the 12th century, which remains an active parish for the local community. Another notable site is the 19th‑century Rikkeinge Manor, now a heritage museum that showcases regional life during the industrialisation period.

Today Rikkeinge has a population of roughly 2,300 residents (as of 2023). The local economy is largely based on agriculture, small manufacturing enterprises, and the recently established Rikkeinge Wind Farm, which supplies renewable energy to the surrounding area. The village hosts an annual spring market that attracts visitors from neighbouring towns, and its community centre offers cultural activities ranging from folk music workshops to contemporary art exhibitions.

Despite its modest size, Rikkeinge maintains a strong sense of community identity, evident in its well‑preserved historical sites, active local associations, and the continued importance of sustainable agricultural practices. Public facilities include a primary school, a health clinic, and a recreation park that features walking trails and a playground for children.
