Rhubodach

Rhubodach is a small coastal settlement on the east coast of the Isle of Bute, in the Argyll and Bute area of Scotland. It lies opposite Colintraive on the Cowal peninsula, across the water known as the Kyles of Bute, and is part of the island’s eastern coastal landscape.

The village is best known for its ferry terminal, which provides the main vehicle link between Bute and the Cowal peninsula. Caledonian MacBrayne operates a vehicle and passenger ferry service between Rhubodach and Colintraive, enabling a short crossing that connects the island to the Scottish mainland road network. The terminal and harbour facilities serve travelers and residents, supporting both local transport needs and tourism.

Beyond the harbour, Rhubodach is primarily residential and rural in character. The surrounding area features coastal scenery, open farmland, and access to walking routes along the shoreline, with views across the water toward Colintraive and the Cowal hills. The village relies on nearby Rothesay and other parts of Bute for a wider range of services, shops, and amenities.

Rhubodach forms part of the broader network of communities on the Isle of Bute, contributing to the island’s transport links and its appeal as a coastal destination within western Scotland.
