Repaving

Repaving is a common maintenance process for asphalt surfaces, such as roads, parking lots, and driveways. It involves removing the existing worn-out asphalt layer and replacing it with a new layer of asphalt. This process is undertaken to restore the surface's integrity, improve its appearance, and extend its lifespan.

The repaving process typically begins with the removal of the old asphalt. This is usually done using specialized milling machines that grind away the existing pavement. The milled material can often be recycled and reused in new asphalt mixes. Once the old surface is removed, the underlying base layer is inspected and repaired if necessary. Any cracks or potholes are filled, and the base is compacted to ensure a stable foundation.

The new asphalt mixture, a combination of aggregate, binder (typically asphalt cement), and additives, is then delivered to the site in paving machines. These machines spread the hot asphalt evenly across the prepared surface. Immediately following the paving, rollers are used to compact the new asphalt. This compaction is crucial for creating a dense, durable surface that can withstand traffic loads and weather conditions. The surface is then allowed to cool and cure before it is reopened to traffic. Repaving is a cost-effective method to significantly improve the condition and functionality of asphalt surfaces.
