Repassivatie
Repassivatie is a term used in linguistics to describe the process by which a passive voice construction is transformed back into an active voice construction. This often occurs when translating between languages or when analyzing sentence structure. For example, the passive sentence "The ball was hit by the boy" can be repassivated into the active sentence "The boy hit the ball." The original agent of the action, which is often introduced by a preposition like "by" in the passive voice, becomes the subject of the repassivated active sentence. The object of the active sentence, which was the subject of the passive sentence, becomes the object in the repassivated construction. This transformation reverses the grammatical roles of the participants. Understanding repassivation is important for comprehending the relationship between active and passive voice and for accurate grammatical analysis. It highlights how the same core meaning can be expressed through different syntactic structures.
