Rendementsprestaties is a term used in finance to describe the historical performance of an investment, portfolio, or fund in generating return for investors. It aggregates all sources of return over a given period, including capital gains (or losses) and investment income such as dividends or coupons, and subtracts costs and fees to give net results. Rendementsprestaties are usually expressed as a percentage of the initial investment and can be reported as absolute, cumulative, or annualized returns. They are used to assess how well an investment has performed and to compare different investments or fund managers against benchmarks or targets.

Investors often compare rendementsprestaties to a benchmark index to determine relative performance (alpha). Risk-adjusted measures such as the Sharpe ratio, information ratio, or beta help interpret returns against the level of risk taken. Fees and other costs reduce net rendementsprestaties; currency movements can also affect international investments. The time horizon matters: short-term results may differ from long-term performance, and volatile periods can distort simple return measures.

Reporting is subject to data quality, survivorship bias, and the choice of measurement method. In the Netherlands and broader EU, fund prospectuses and annual reports present historical performance over standard horizons (for example, 1, 3, 5, and 10 years where available) to aid comparability and decision-making.
