Refroot

Refroot is a type of plant root system found in certain species of flowering plants. This unique root system allows plants to absorb water and nutrients more efficiently from the soil. Refroot differs from other types of roots, such as taproot and fibrous roots, due to its compact and densely packed structure. This specialized root system expands easily through the surrounding soil, crossing into adjacent areas.

Refroot plants, including species of Pea, Bean, and Wisteria, typically develop this type of root system in early stages of their growth. They gradually switch to a different type of root system as the plant reaches maturity. Because of this, refroot is not considered a stable or permanent characteristic of these plants.

The structure of refroot is characterized as finger-like or stoloniferous, consisting of small, tightly packed roots and distinctive hubs. The ability of refroot to cross from one area to another, known as root grafting, can lead to a cultivar growing as a unified, interconnected plant. In some plant species, refroot is established to survive adverse environmental conditions.

Additionally, the studies around the zone of root grafting between two individual refroot parts, have given insights to how a supply of minerals can share freely across the zone of crossed refroot and that the survival of connected plants parts creates more resilience comparisons with a disjoined planched area.
