Redoksparet

Redoksparet is a term sometimes used to refer to the two chemical species involved in a redox reaction—the oxidized form and the reduced form that together define a redox pair or redox couple. In redox chemistry, these two states exchange electrons, and their relative tendency to gain or lose electrons is described by redox potentials. A redoksparet is typically discussed in terms of its standard redox potential and its role in determining the direction and extent of electron transfer in electrochemical processes.

Commonly cited redoksparet examples include the iron couple Fe3+/Fe2+, the copper couple Cu2+/Cu, and the permanganate/manganese(II) pair MnO4−/Mn2+. In biology, redox couples such as NAD+/NADH also illustrate the same principle, where electron transfer is coupled to cellular energy metabolism. The concept is foundational for understanding electrochemical cells, corrosion science, battery chemistry, and environmental redox processes, where the relative potentials of participating species drive reactions and influence efficiency and stability.
