Redokskõveraga

Redokskõveraga, often translated as redox curve or potentiometric titration curve, is a graphical representation of the change in electric potential (voltage) of a solution during a redox titration. This curve plots the measured potential on the y-axis against the volume of titrant added on the x-axis.

In a redox titration, a solution containing an analyte (the substance being analyzed) reacts with a titrant (a solution of known concentration). This reaction involves the transfer of electrons, hence the term "redox" (reduction-oxidation). As the titrant is added, it reacts with the analyte, and the relative concentrations of the oxidized and reduced forms of the species in solution change. These changes directly affect the electrode potential, which is measured by a suitable indicator electrode immersed in the solution.

The shape of the redokskõveraga provides significant information about the redox reaction. A key feature is the steep jump in potential observed around the equivalence point. The equivalence point is reached when the stoichiometric amount of titrant has been added to react completely with the analyte. The midpoint of this steep jump corresponds to the equivalence point. The potential at the equivalence point is characteristic of the specific redox reaction occurring.

Analysis of the redokskõveraga allows for the determination of the concentration of the analyte. It can also be used to study the thermodynamics of redox reactions and to identify the specific redox species present. The titrant is typically a strong oxidizing or reducing agent. The choice of indicator electrode depends on the specific redox system being studied, with platinum electrodes being common for many applications.
