Recolonização

Recolonização refers to the process by which a former colonial power reasserts its political, economic, or cultural influence over a territory that was once its colony. This can manifest in various ways, often without direct political control. Historically, recolonization has occurred after periods of independence, though it is a contentious term and its application is debated. It can involve economic dependency, where a former colony remains heavily reliant on its former colonizer for trade, investment, or aid, leading to continued influence. Cultural recolonization describes the perpetuation or re-establishment of the colonizer's language, customs, and values, potentially marginalizing local traditions.

The term can also be used more broadly to describe situations where a powerful nation exerts significant control over another, even without a formal colonial past.
