RaudIIkloriid

RaudIIkloriid, also known as iron(II) chloride or ferrous chloride, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula FeCl2. It is a paramagnetic solid that is typically off-white in color, though common samples are often greenish due to the presence of hydrated forms. RaudIIkloriid is highly soluble in water, forming acidic solutions. It is also soluble in some organic solvents.

RaudIIkloriid is a common reducing agent and is used in various industrial processes. One significant application is in wastewater treatment, where it acts as a coagulant to remove impurities. It is also employed in the production of other iron compounds, pigments, and as a catalyst in certain organic reactions. In agriculture, it can be used to treat iron deficiency in plants.

The compound exists in anhydrous form and as various hydrates, the most common being the tetrahydrate, FeCl2·4H2O. In the anhydrous form, it is sensitive to moisture and air, readily oxidizing to iron(III) compounds. The hydrated forms are more stable. RaudIIkloriid can be prepared by the direct reaction of iron metal with hydrochloric acid or by the reduction of iron(III) chloride.
