Ratatosk
Ratatosk is a squirrel who, according to Norse mythology, darts up and down the world tree Yggdrasil. His role is to carry messages between the eagle that resides at the top of the tree and the dragon Nidhogg that gnaws at its roots. Ratatosk is often described as a mischievous and quarrelsome figure, relaying insults and gossip between these two powerful beings. This constant exchange of venomous words between the eagle and Nidhogg, facilitated by Ratatosk, contributes to the ongoing decay and instability of Yggdrasil. While his actions may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of the cosmos, they play a part in the cyclical nature of destruction and renewal central to Norse cosmology. He is a minor but memorable character, embodying the way small actions can have far-reaching consequences.
