Rangids

Rangids are a genus of caddisflies, belonging to the family Lithoviidae. They are characterized by yellow or brown and black markings on their elytra. There are approximately 30 species of rangids, primarily found in the Holarctic region.

These caddisflies typically have a black thorax and abdomen, contrasting with the other two parts of their exoskeleton. Their elytra can vary in color and pattern, with some species displaying striking combinations of yellow and black or other colors. Rangids as a whole tend to be relatively small, with adults typically ranging from 7 to 14 millimeters in length.

In terms of habit and habitat, rangids as a group have been found living in freshwater locations. Some species occur in lentic environments, such as ponds and slow-moving streams, while others have been found in more dynamic and turbulent types of water. Rangids have been known to attach stones and plant material to their elytra for camouflage.
