Radikulaarne

Radikulaarne is a term derived from the Latin word "radix," meaning root. In a medical context, it refers to conditions affecting the spinal nerve roots as they emerge from the spinal cord. These nerve roots can become compressed or irritated, leading to a variety of symptoms.

Common causes of radikulaarne symptoms include herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and bone spurs. When a nerve root is impinged, it can disrupt the nerve's ability to transmit signals, resulting in pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that may radiate along the path of the affected nerve. For example, compression of a nerve root in the lower back can cause sciatica, characterized by pain that travels down the leg.

Diagnosis of radikulaarne conditions typically involves a review of medical history, a physical examination, and often imaging studies such as X-rays, MRI, or CT scans. Treatment approaches vary depending on the severity and cause of the condition and may include conservative measures like rest, physical therapy, pain medication, and corticosteroid injections. In some cases, surgery may be considered to relieve pressure on the nerve root. Understanding the underlying cause is crucial for effective management and relief of radikulaarne symptoms.
