Racemizációja

Racemizációja (racemization) refers to the process in which an optically active chiral molecule is converted into a mixture of enantiomers, resulting in a racemic mixture. This transformation occurs when the chiral center loses its stereochemical integrity, typically due to the cleavage of the bond between the chiral carbon and one of its substituents. Racemization can happen spontaneously or under specific conditions such as heat, light, or chemical reactions.

The phenomenon is particularly relevant in organic chemistry, biochemistry, and pharmaceutical sciences. In chiral compounds, enantiomers are mirror-image forms that can exhibit different biological activities, even though they have identical physical properties like melting point and boiling point.
