RRHDU

RRHDU stands for Remote Radio Head Distribution Unit. It is a component within modern cellular network infrastructure, specifically in Distributed Radio Access Networks (DRAN) or sometimes referred to as Remote Radio Heads (RRH). The primary function of an RRHDU is to manage and distribute radio frequency (RF) signals between the baseband processing unit (BBU) and multiple remote radio heads located at cell sites.

This unit acts as an intermediary, consolidating the optical or electrical connections from the BBU and then splitting them to feed the individual RRHs. This arrangement allows for greater flexibility in network deployment, enabling operators to place radio units closer to antennas to improve signal quality and coverage, while centralizing the more complex processing and equipment in a more accessible or secure location. The RRHDU can also incorporate power distribution and monitoring capabilities for the connected RRHs. Its presence is a key enabler for technologies like 4G LTE and 5G, which demand denser network architectures and more efficient signal management.
