Semi-passive tags have a battery to power the chip but rely on the reader's radio waves for communication.

RFID applications are diverse and span across many industries. They are used for inventory management, supply chain tracking, access control, toll collection, animal identification, and patient tracking in healthcare. The technology offers advantages such as faster data collection, improved accuracy, and the ability to track multiple items simultaneously compared to traditional barcode systems. However, challenges can include tag cost, read range limitations, and potential interference from metal or liquids.
