REACHsäädöksellä

REACHsäädös, officially Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, is a European Union regulation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. Its primary objective is to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. REACH is one of the most comprehensive pieces of chemical legislation in the world.

Under REACH, manufacturers and importers of chemical substances within the EU are required to register these substances with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). This registration process involves providing data on the properties and uses of the substances, as well as assessing their potential risks. The level of information required depends on the volume of the substance produced or imported.

REACH also establishes a system for the evaluation of registered substances, where ECHA and Member States can scrutinize the submitted data. Substances of very high concern (SVHCs) may be subject to authorization, meaning their use will require specific permission from the European Commission. Furthermore, REACH includes provisions for restricting the manufacture, placing on the market, or use of certain dangerous substances if their risks are deemed unacceptable. The regulation aims to ensure that companies take responsibility for managing the risks associated with the chemicals they produce and use.
