Röntgenphoton

Röntgenphoton is a German term that translates to X-ray photon. A photon is the fundamental particle of light and all other forms of electromagnetic radiation. X-ray photons are a specific type of photon characterized by their high energy and short wavelength, falling within the X-ray portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. These photons have energies typically ranging from 100 eV to 200 keV and wavelengths from 10 nanometers down to 0.01 nanometers. Their high energy allows them to penetrate matter more effectively than visible light.

X-ray photons are produced through various mechanisms. One common method is the deceleration of high-energy electrons, a process known as bremsstrahlung. Another is the excitation of inner-shell electrons in atoms, leading to the emission of characteristic X-rays when these electrons transition to lower energy levels. X-ray photons are widely used in medical imaging, industrial radiography, and scientific research due to their penetrating power and ability to reveal internal structures of objects. They can also cause ionization in matter, which has both beneficial and harmful applications.
