Querschnittslähmung, also known as spinal cord injury, refers to damage to the spinal cord that results in a loss of function, such as mobility or sensation. This damage can be caused by trauma, such as a fall or car accident, or by disease, like tumors or infections. The severity of the paralysis depends on the location and extent of the spinal cord damage. Injuries higher up on the spinal cord typically result in more widespread paralysis than those lower down.
