QuakeML
QuakeML is an XML-based data format designed for the description and exchange of earthquake information. Developed by the seismic community, it aims to provide a standardized way to represent a wide range of earthquake-related parameters. The format can describe the location, magnitude, depth, origin time, and focal mechanism of seismic events. It also supports information about the associated uncertainties for these parameters. Beyond the basic event description, QuakeML can incorporate details about seismic phases, station information, waveform data references, and the agencies that generated the data. This comprehensive structure allows for the interoperability of earthquake catalogs and seismic data between different research institutions and operational centers worldwide. By using a common language, QuakeML facilitates data sharing, analysis, and the development of more robust earthquake monitoring and research tools. Its flexibility allows for extensions to accommodate new types of information as seismic research evolves.
