Qolmoqda

Qolmoqda is an Uzbek verb form that expresses the present continuous aspect of the verb qolmoq, meaning to stay or to remain. In its grammatical function, qolmoqda signals an ongoing state or action associated with the subject in the third-person singular, as in “u qolmoqda” (he/she is staying/remains).

Morphology and usage

The form is built from the verb stem qol- (from qolmoq, to stay/ remain) and the present-continuous marker -moqda. It can denote literal staying in a place, for example, “U hozir kvartirada qolmoqda” (He is staying in his apartment right now), or a figurative sense such as remaining in a given condition or situation, for example, “Shaxsiyat ishlari hali ham qolmoqda” (The issues still remain).

Time and quantity contexts

Qolmoqda is commonly used with time references to indicate what remains or is continuing, such as “Kurs tugashiga bir soat qolmoqda” (One hour remains until the course ends). It also appears with plural or collective subjects when referring to groups that are currently staying or remaining in a location.

Distinctions

As a present-continuous form, qolmoqda contrasts with other Uzbek tenses that express completed action or habitual states. It is one of several forms derived from qolmoq used to convey ongoing states in the present.
