Qishloq

Qishloq is the Uzbek term for a village or rural settlement. In everyday use it denotes a small community or rural area, often contrasted with shahar, the city. The word can refer to a single village as well as to rural regions within a district or province. In many contexts, qishloq is associated with agricultural life and countryside traditions.

In modern contexts, qishloqlar (plural) have experienced changes such as improved electricity, water supply, and internet access, alongside ongoing challenges like migration to cities and uneven economic development. The term remains a fundamental way to describe the rural landscape in Uzbekistan and in related linguistic regions, preserving a cultural identity tied to countryside life and traditional livelihoods.
