Qaymat

Qaymat, often rendered kiyamât or qayāmat in various languages, denotes the Day of Judgment in Islamic eschatology. The term derives from the Arabic qiyāmah meaning standing up or resurrection.

In Islamic belief, Qaymat refers to the final event when all beings are resurrected and judged by God for their deeds. The Qur'an and hadith describe it as a definite future event, with the righteous rewarded with paradise and the wicked punished in hell. The period is said to be preceded by signs—many of which are categorized as minor or major—though exact timings are considered known only to God. Across traditions, narratives about the appearance of figures such as the Mahdi and the return of Jesus appear in some sources, but details vary and are interpreted differently in Sunni and Shia thought.

Cross-linguistically the term is used in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Urdu and other languages with minor phonetic variations. Beyond religious discourse, Qaymat has appeared in literature, poetry and popular culture as a motif addressing apocalypse, reckoning or moral accountability. It can also appear as a given name or place-name in some communities, reflecting its cultural resonance.
