Pyrosilikaattiryhmiä

Pyrosilikaattiryhmiä are a class of chemical compounds that contain the pyrosilicate anion, with the general formula Si2O7^6-. This anion consists of two silicon atoms bonded to each other through an oxygen atom, with each silicon atom also bonded to three other oxygen atoms. This arrangement forms a structure where two SiO4 tetrahedra share a single oxygen vertex.

These compounds are a subset of silicates, which are minerals and synthetic materials characterized by the presence of the silicon-oxygen tetrahedron as their basic structural unit. Pyrosilicates are distinct from orthosilicates (SiO4^4-), metasilicates (SiO3^2-), and other silicate structures due to their specific arrangement of linked tetrahedra.

Examples of pyrosilicate minerals include thalenite and euclase. Thalenite, (Y,REE)2Si2O7, is a rare earth silicate mineral. Euclase, BeAl2(SiO4)(OH)2, also contains the pyrosilicate anion within its structure, although it is classified as a beryllium aluminum silicate. Synthetic pyrosilicate compounds also exist and are explored for various material science applications, including their potential in ceramics and as components in glass manufacturing. The properties of pyrosilicate compounds are influenced by the specific metal cations that balance the negative charge of the pyrosilicate anion.
