Purmer
Purmer is a locality in the municipality of Purmerend, within the Dutch province of North Holland. Historically, Purmer was a peat bog that was drained to create polder land. This reclamation process, common in the Netherlands, transformed the marshy area into agricultural land suitable for farming. The name "Purmer" itself is thought to derive from "pur" (meaning peat or mud) and "meer" (meaning lake), referring to the former watery nature of the land.
