Pulpakudos

Pulpakudos, also known as dental pulp, is the soft tissue found within the inner chamber of a tooth. It is a vital component of the tooth's structure, responsible for its vitality and sensation. This connective tissue is rich in blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatic vessels. The blood vessels provide nourishment to the tooth, while the nerves transmit sensory information, such as temperature and pain. The lymphatic vessels help to drain waste products.

Pulpakudos is contained within the pulp chamber, which is the hollow space in the crown of the tooth, and extends into the root canals, which run through the roots. It is surrounded by dentin, a hard, calcified tissue that forms the bulk of the tooth. The pulp plays a crucial role in the development and formation of dentin.

Damage to the pulp, often caused by deep decay, trauma, or repeated dental procedures, can lead to inflammation (pulpitis) and infection. If left untreated, pulpitis can result in severe pain and may necessitate root canal therapy to remove the damaged pulp and preserve the tooth. Conversely, if the pulp becomes irreversibly damaged or infected, the tooth may need to be extracted. Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential to protect the pulpakudos from damage.
