Pubissymfysen

Pubissymfysen refers to the pubic symphysis, a cartilaginous joint that unites the left and right pubic bones. This joint is located at the front of the pelvis, just below the abdomen and above the external genitalia. It is characterized by fibrocartilage, which allows for a small amount of movement and flexibility within the pelvis. While generally stable, the pubic symphysis can become a source of pain, particularly during pregnancy due to hormonal changes that can relax the ligaments supporting the joint. This condition, known as pubic symphysis dysfunction or SPD, can manifest as pain, clicking, or a feeling of instability in the pelvic region. Other causes of pubic symphysis pain can include injury, trauma, or certain medical conditions. Treatment typically involves rest, pain management, and physical therapy to strengthen the surrounding muscles and improve pelvic stability.
