Przelewem

Przelewem is the instrumental form of the Polish noun przelew, which means a transfer of money between bank accounts. In Polish, przelew refers to moving funds from one account to another, and przelewem is used to specify the method by which a payment is made. The expression is common in banking, invoices, and everyday commerce, for example when saying that a payment was made przelewem or that a bill should be settled przelewem.

The term covers various types of bank transfers. In Polish banking and financial contexts, it is common to distinguish between domestic transfers (przelew krajowy) and international transfers (przelew zagraniczny or przelew międzynarodowy). Within Poland and within the European Union, customers may also encounter faster or instant transfers, sometimes described as przelewy ekspresowe or equivalent terms offered by banks. Invoices and payment instructions frequently specify payment by przelew, especially for business-to-business transactions.

Etymology and usage notes: przelew derives from the verb przelewać, meaning to pour or to transfer fluids. Metaphorically, money is “poured” from one account into another, giving rise to the noun for the financial transfer. In everyday language, przelewem is used to indicate the means of payment, as in phrases like „płacono przelewem” (paid by bank transfer) or „uregulować fakturę przelewem” (settle the invoice by bank transfer). Beyond finance, przelew can also mean physical overflow, but in financial contexts its meaning is clearly the transfer of funds.
