Protsendimuutust, meaning "percentage change" in Estonian, is a fundamental concept used to express the relative change in a value between two periods. It quantifies how much a quantity has increased or decreased as a proportion of its initial value. The calculation involves subtracting the initial value from the final value, dividing the result by the initial value, and then multiplying by 100 to express it as a percentage. For example, if a stock price increases from $10 to $12, the percentage change is calculated as ((12 - 10) / 10) * 100 = 20%. Conversely, a decrease from $10 to $8 would result in a percentage change of ((8 - 10) / 10) * 100 = -20%. This metric is widely employed across various fields, including finance, economics, statistics, and everyday life, to understand trends, compare performance, and assess growth or decline.
