Programmeerime

Programmeerime is the present tense, first-person plural form of the Estonian verb programmeerima, meaning to program or to develop software. It translates literally as “we program” and is used to describe collaborative coding activity or to express a proposal in conversation.

Etymology and form: The form is built from the verb stem programmeer- with the present-tense ending -ime. Related forms include programmeerime (we program), programmeerid (you program), and programmeerivad (they program). The infinitive is programmeerima, and imperatives appear as programmeerige (plural) or programmeerige meid, depending on construction.

Usage: In ordinary Estonian, programmeerime appears in sentences such as “Me programmeerime uut tarkvara,” meaning “We are programming new software.” It can also function as a concise slogan or call to action in coding education and hackathon contexts, for example “Programmeerime koos” (“We program together”).

Linguistic notes: Estonian verbs are built with stems and inflectional endings to mark person and number. Programmeerima belongs to the first conjugation pattern, and its present forms, including programmeerime, reflect collective action. The form is routinely used in both formal and informal registers and does not carry special capitalization unless used as a title or at the start of a sentence.
