Primerbindung
Primerbindung refers to the process in molecular biology where a short nucleic acid sequence, known as a primer, specifically binds to a complementary sequence on a larger DNA or RNA template. This binding is a crucial prerequisite for various enzymatic reactions, most notably DNA replication and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
In DNA replication, RNA primers are synthesized by primase enzymes to initiate the synthesis of new DNA
In PCR, synthetic oligonucleotide primers are used. These primers are designed to flank the target DNA sequence.
