For example, in the sentence "Hän on opettaja" (He/She is a teacher), "opettaja" is in the nominative case and functions as the predikaatiksi, identifying what the subject "hän" is. If the verb implied a state or partitive quality, such as "Hänestä tuli opettaja" (He/She became a teacher), "opettaja" would still be in the nominative case as the predikaatiksi.
